Q:
Will Neem have an adverse effect on "good bugs" like worms and ladybugs?
A:
Classified as broad spectrum, neem-based products are great for controlling fungus and deterring pests naturally; however they do not discriminate between “good” and “bad” bugs. When ingested, neem derivatives work by interfering with an insect’s normal life cycle (feeding, molting, mating, and reproduction) and according to the Neem Foundation, they’ve been proven effective on over 400 species of insects. As opposed to the pests that actually feed on neem-treated plants, ladybugs primarily feed on aphids and other pests and (in theory) shouldn’t be bothered, but there’s no guarantee that ladybugs or worms will survive a direct or recent neem application.
